Spelthorne is a government district and is situated in the region of Surrey, England. Spelthorne includes the towns of Sunbury, Stanwell, Staines, Sheppertown, Laleham and Ashford.
The county was established in 1974 from Sunbury-on-Thames Urban District and Staines Urban District. Originally, the urban districts had been part of Middlesex. Nevertheless, these two districts were transferred to Surrey in 1965 while the other Middlesex were transferred to the Greater London. The boundary of these districts change in 1995 another district called as Poyle was moved to Slough in Berkshire.
Spelthorne remained and maintained inside the Metropolitan Police District until 2000, where it was transferred to Surrey Police after the county was readjusted to Greater London.
Furthermore, the district’s name came from the ancient Spelthorne Hundred (under the region of Middlesex at that time), which covered also Hanworth, Feltham, East Bedfont and all under London Borough of Hounslow.
Spelthorne is a blend of suburban housing and leafy suburbs (largely towards the Thames River). Shepperton Studios and Kempton Park Racecourse are located in Spelthorne. What is more, Staines is the largest town in its administrative centre (situated at Knowle Green) and the borough.
