Shalford is a small township in Surrey, England. The town is situated on the busy Horsham road which is just south of Guildford. Shalford has its own train station between Dorking and Guilford on the North Downs Line.
Shalford is in the district of Guildford and constitutes a ward and a civil parish. The small township has a population of 5,161 (2001) compared to the population of Guildford which is 129,701.
The River Wey intercepts the River Tillingbourne at Shalford next to the township church. For many centuries, these rivers provided a major supply of income for Shalford. As the northern end of the Arun and Wey Canal, Shalford became the best place for barges. Until now, the area is still swarmed by boats for pleasure use rather than trade.
Furthermore, the main church of Shalford, which was mentioned through the Domesday survey, does no longer exist. Presently, the site of the church was taken by an early Victorian church. In 1846, St Mary’s church was built. There are many older buildings still exists in Shalford. Shalford House is one of the best properties in Shalford.
The house was built in the Tudor Period and has a stone fireplace that is dated in 1609.
