The Central London District School :

The Central London District School was established in 1856 to educate and house the poor of London. In 1933, the Central London District School was stopped but some of it still standing and finally the school was converted to the Hanwell Community Centre. Moreover, the previous district school was filmed in “Billy Elliot”. What is more, the Hanwell Community Centre has been declared as a 2nd grade listed building by the English Heritage; however, its future is doubtful.

Hanwell Asylum :

Hanwell Asylum is located at the western side of the Brent River and in fact in the district of Norwood, the Lunatic Asylum of Middlesex County was mainly known as the Hanwell Asylum since its position was closer to Hanwell rather than Southall or Norwood. Hanwell Asylum was opened to house pauper lunatics in 1831. What is more, the asylum finally is known as the St Bernard Hospital since the asylum has become the wing of St Bernard of Ealing Hospital. The original asylum mostly still remains with half have been sent to flats and a psychiatric hospital.
